It was only until I hit the mid dirty thirty club that my beauty routine started to peak and I blame Japan. Before this, I relied on Vaseline Intensive Care (got me a long way) for my body are face skincare. Japan opened my eyes to many beauty products.
Using standard body cream on your face does work for some people so don’t knock it until you try it. A beauty routine for me isn’t just about taking care of your skin, it’s also about me time. I like taking time to spend on myself.
My beauty routine is Cleanse, Tone, Serum, Cream with face oil. I use face liquid masks 2-3 times per week and face sheet masks 2-3 times per week. Exfoliating is key people! But don’t go overboard.
Cleansers can in liquid or solid (soap) form. I double cleanse if I’ve been out on the lash or if I just need it. I double cleanse by using an oil cleanser (love the DHC oil cleanser) and follow up with my standard cleansers. Don’t assume that all well known brands are the way to go. The Superdrug Naturally Radiant range is 🙌 and on offer a lot. Below are some of my cleansers.
My go to exfoliating product is by Lancer. You can pickup a mini version for around £10 and mine lasted me many months. I got an Uber bottle in the January sales (mankind) and I saved loads. Once my face is cleansed in the evening, I use half a pea size amount on my face, and gently massage concentrating on my nose area. This also helps with the bikini area for bumps.
Next up is toning. Toning locks in your pores and adds an additional layer of moisture. I’ve recently read that toning is codswallop but in my experience, it makes a difference. When adding a face toner, let it sit for 2-3 minutes before moving on to the next step. My pores are less visible following this. My go to face toners are the PIXI range. I’m currently trying the lemon (brightening) toner but my all time fave is the Glow toner. Who wouldn’t want a glow up! I noticed a difference after two applications. I have read that the Superdrug Naturally Radiant range has a PIXI glow dupe and I will be testing this. And I will he testing the Aldi PIXI dupe.
Now we’re on to the face serums. Serums are crucial because these tackle your problem areas. You can get serums for tightening the skin, problem skin, glow etc. I do love me a face serum. TKMAXX sells a good selection! Valjean Labs and Pearlessence are a good shout. They are my faves because I notice a difference. Happy shopping.
I rarely use night creams because they seem to be too heavy. I use daytime cream twice daily. Again I’m using the Superdrug Naturally Radiant day cream and I love it because it sinks in nicely.
In the last few months I have added face oil to my routine because of winter drying months and I haven’t looked back. Some face oils can be too heavy for daytime so pick wisely. I add the face oil on the top half of my face, avoiding my nose and chin after I have added moisturizer. My absolute fave oils are Clarins Blue Orchid (nip into Clarins for a free sample) and Pearlessence Rosehip & Vitamin C oil. The Clarins oil is best to use night time because your make up will slip off. The Pearlessence oil can be used day or night and it sinks in nicely. I leave it a good 10-15 mins before I start to apply make up so that it allows enough time for the cream and oil to sink in. It’s worth noting that if you apply a drying liquid foundation afterwards, your previous effort will be wasted. I am currently testing a tinted moisturiser to combat dryness and I post a further review regarding this.
Voila my standard beauty routine. Let me know if you have any questions 😊
